First it was droolworthy cake jars, then came insane milkshakes creations, now Sea Point chocolatier My Sugar has created a new Instagrammable treat: Chocolate-drenched and dessert-filled gourmet doughnuts. Served daily in the chocolate café, the glorious dough rings are fried until golden and dressed in, or filled with, flavours inspired by some of your favourite desserts.
The OTT decorated doughnuts cost R35 a pop and come in a range of flavours, including caramelised white chocolate topped with butterscotch popcorn and crunchy salted caramel pearls; milk chocolate ganache topped with caramelised coconut and a drizzle of caramel; and the s’more, topped with dark chocolate ganache and toasted marshmallow. Then the dessert-filled beauties come in three different versions: crème brûlée, filled with vanilla bean custard and coated in a crack of caramel for extra theatre; lemon meringue, complete with a topping of torched meringue; and the one filled with chocolate mousse and peanut butter and topped with candied peanuts. All doughnuts are made with house-made ingredients and come topped with crafted couverture chocolate.
As for the inspiration behind these indulgent treats, My Sugar owner Kaylah Greenberg explains, “The doughnuts are a new canvas for us to stretch our creativity. With winter setting in, there’s nothing more comforting than a doughnut and a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. These doughnuts are something we’ve wanted to try for a while now, and with a new pastry chef on board we finally have the opportunity. Lots more exciting things are to follow, so watch this space!”
Drooling yet? The team is currently experimenting with new flavours to bring to the table. Look out for doughnut options like apple pie, cheesecake and chocolate fudge. My Sugar also offers customers the chance to order the celebratory doughnut tower as an alternative to a birthday cake.
