Luke Dale Roberts to close The Commissary at the end of March

Fans of Luke Dale Roberts’ The Commissary in Cape Town’s Shortmarket Street will be disappointed to learn that the restaurant is set to close at the end of March 2020. Eat Out reported in January that Wesley Randles has resigned as head chef of the establishment and plans to relocate to the Eastern Cape.

The Commissary opened in November 2018 serving street-style food with punchy flavours. The menu was small but interesting. Cape Town diners will remember standout dishes like the wedge salad, pani puri ceviche, oysters with spicy nahm jim sauce, the Friday ‘chicken sando’ and of course Juliet Randles’ zoo biscuit ice cream!

The Commissary’s edgy graffitied hallway and bathroom were the perfect backdrops for Instagram-worthy photos. (Were you really even there if you didn’t take a bathroom selfie?)
