Mackeurton Avenue’s brand new lunch hatch: The Coop

Mackeurtan Avenue’s ever-growing foodie hub has gained yet another contemporary lunch spot. The Coop opened its doors earlier this month and is now offering Durban North residents quick-fix chicken-based take-aways.

The new fast-food hatch focuses on tasty and simple chicken options and caters for both sit-in snacks and speedy take-away lunches.  The menu offers chicken strips, chicken burgers and chicken wraps, with an optional side portion of chunky rustic chips, buttered corn or refreshing coleslaw. For those looking for a healthier side, there is also the Coop salad. The chicken is served in three different sauces – peri-peri, lemon and herb or smokey BBQ – and prices range from R35 to R50. For those looking for a caffeine fix, the coffee is a special brew by Empire Coffee.

The tiny space was designed by Durban’s Chisel Design Studio to look like a contemporary barn with a modern edge. Adorned with quirky chicken references, and milk stools to sit on, this is no ordinary chicken take-away.

Says social media manager Melissa Jordan, “We want our patrons to have a positive but laid back experience – right from when they walk through the door and follow the chicken feet on floor to the service counter, to when they take their last tasty bite.”

The Coop is open between 11am and 9pm daily, which means this is the perfect work-day pit stop or sneaky late night snack on a Saturday. (Provided you can find a parking bay on buzzing Mackeurton Avenue, that is!)
