Mother’s Day specials in the Winelands

We all know Mother’s Day should be every day, but if you’ve accidentally been neglecting your mom, 12 May is the perfect time to make her feel loved. These six spots in the Winelands are all hosting special slap-up meals for the occasion where you can spoil the much-deserving mother figure in your life.

The Bakery @ Jordan (Stellenbosch)

Veer slightly off the beaten track and be surrounded by natural beauty for a day of tranquility. You can choose to enjoy a set breakfast or lunch menu here. Breakfast includes an apple-and-pecan flammkuchen and an English muffin with mushroom duxelles, crispy bacon, poached egg and popcorn hollandaise. For lunch, there’s wood-fired bread served with a capsicum crème fraîche, followed by honey- and ginger-glazed Norwegian salmon, and finished off with petit fours for dessert. There are also kiddies’ menus available.

The Bistro & Restaurant at Boschenmeer Golf Estate (Paarl)

Make Mother’s Day a family affair with a scrumptious buffet lunch and live music. Priced from R189 per person, the menu includes items such as curry butternut soup, stuffed grilled chicken, roast beef sirloin and a mousse duo. There’s a kiddies’ menu for the littlies, too! Space is limited, so be sure to book.

Bodega Restaurant at Dornier (Stellenbosch)

Breathtaking views and a delectable three-course set menu lunch, all in a relaxing atmosphere, are the order of the day. The menu can also be paired with carefully selected Dornier wines. This Mother’s Day lunch costs R395 per person, excluding the wine pairing.

The Dining Room & Conservatory at Leeu Estates (Franschhoek)

Spoil your mom with an elegant lunch at The Dining Room and Conservatory at Leeu Estates this Mother’s Day (R495 per person). The menu includes a mushroom tartare, bruschetta, miso hollandaise and crispy capers; a thyme, roasted quail, balsamic-glazed beetroot, figs and brie cheese starter; and slow-braised lamb shoulder served with parmesan mash, carrots, pea puree and red wine jus. End the meal off with a chocolate truffle dessert. They’re also offering a beautiful afternoon tea at Leeu House for R250 per person (R100 per child). Eight Restaurant (Stellenbosch)

Located on the Spier Wine Farm, this farm-to-table restaurant is a favourite for many families. For R450 per adult and R200 per child, you can tuck into a buffet offering dishes such as slow-braised pork and roasted root veggies, oxtail potjie and Amarula milk tart. Many of the ingredients are grown on the farm or sourced from others nearby. Moms take home a special gift too!

Eike (Stellenbosch)

Eike is normally closed on Sundays, but they’re open on Sunday the 12th May 2019 for Mother’s Day and they’re offering a condensed menu of the normal Eike menu for R750 per person.

Excellencia (Durbanville)

Known for its Christian approach, Excellencia is the ideal spot for a spiritual celebration. From 12pm on Mother’s Day, the restaurant is serving up a buffet lunch with favourites like slow-braised oxtail (R200 per person and R60 for children).

FABER (Paarl)

Bring the family together at Avondale wine farm for a contemporary farm-to-fork four-course sharing feast. Fresh homemade juice and a bread board with dips start things off before two sharing starters, a plated main and dessert follows. The lunch costs R575 per adult, while children pay R150 for a two-course menu. Booking is essential.

Helena’s Restaurant at Coopmanhuijs Hotel (Stellenbosch)

Fill her heart with love and her belly with a carefully planned lunch. The special Mother’s Day menu at Helena’s includes a seafood bisque starter, a main (with options like saffron tagliatelle with pan-fried prawns and coconut cream; pan-seared Norwegian salmon; or braised shoulder of Karoo Lamb) and an indulgent dessert. Red velvet cupcakes, Turkish delight and a selection of coffees and teas finish off the meal that costs R595 per adult or R350 for children between three and 10 years old.

Kunjani Wines and Restaurant (Stellenbosch)

Treat your mom to a special Mother’s Day three-course lunch at Kunjani Wines for R325 per person. Highlights from the menu include starters of spiced crumbed calamari; rib eye steak served with carrot purée, fondant potato, broccolini and roasted mushroom and shiraz sauce; and Chocolate Fondant with Amarula cream, chocolate ice cream and berry compote for dessert. Nuy on the hill restaurant (Worcester)

Spoil your mother to a delicious traditional sunday lunch prepared by Chef Wilna van der Westhuizen and her team for R295 per person (subject to change). The Red Table Restaurant at Nederburg (Paarl)

Make Mother’s Day memorable with a mouthwatering meal at The Red Table Restaurant at Nederburg Wines. Highlights from the  à la carte menu include a green bean, avocado and bocconcini baby leaf salad topped with poached egg, toasted almonds and light dressing; biltong-crusted beef fillet filled with potato boulangère, flashed garden vegetables and chimichurri sauce; as well as delectable desserts like chocolate fondant served with vanilla ice cream and baked cheesecake with berry compote. The Restaurant at Grande Provence (Franschhoek)

Treat your mother to an elegant three-course lunch (including a glass of bubbly on arrival and a special gift for R495 per person). Highlights from the menu include an amuse bouche of beetroot jelly ravioli; starter choices of cured yellowtail or ox tongue served with pickles and sweet mustard; main course options like beef wellington and confit rainbow trout; and a selection of desserts like pineapple cake with coconut lime sorbet or the lemon pound cake with olive oil ice cream and blueberries. Restaurant at Bellevue Wien Estate (Stellenbosch)

If elegant simplicity is what you’re after, take your mom to Bellevue. For Mother’s Day, they’re offering a two-course meal and wine pairing, plus a free glass of MCC on arrival. The cost is R299 per person.

Restaurant at Clos Malverne (Stellenbosch)

Looking for an extra special way to treat your mum this year? A fabulous five-course meal and wine pairing should do the trick. For R495 per person, including bubbly on arrival, you can enjoy lunch with her while overlooking the jacarandas. Booking is essential.

Rhebokskloof Wine Estate (Paarl)

Spend the day outdoors at this picturesque estate with a special Mother’s Day picnic. The cost is R450 for a double basket including items such as rosemary and seas salt focaccia, Dalewood camembert and Kleinrivier Gruberg, rare roast beef, and cookies and cream. There is also a vegetarian option as well as a children’s picnic menu for R95.  

Rhone Homestead and The Werf Restaurant at Boschendal (Franschhoek)

Boschendal Wine Estate gives you two options from which to choose. You can spend Mother’s Day at Rhone Homestead, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Cape buffet (R425 per person or R255 for children between three and 10 years old). Or head to The Werf for a long Sunday lunch comprising sharing platters (R550 per person and R350 per child). Both options include a gift for mom and exclude beverages.

Rusty Oak Bistro (Durbanville)

Rusty Oak is perfect if you’re dining with young children. Just for Mother’s Day, a special three-course lunch will be served, featuring favourites like beef medallions and stuffed chicken breasts, as well as various vegetarian options, all for R300 per person.

Spek & Bone (Stellenbosch)

Spek & Bone is normally closed on Sunday, but they’re making an exception for Mother’s Day. Use this opportunity to treat your mom to a family-style set lunch menu for R425 per person.
