New coffee shops to explore in Cape Town

If you need a change of scene, grab a cuppa and a bite to eat at one of these new spots in and around the Mother City.

Bootlegger Coffee Company (Table View and City Bowl)

It seems you can’t drive 100 metres these days without bumping into a Bootlegger. But we’re not complaining. Now you can enjoy a cup of perfectly roasted beans, indulge in a decadent chocolate sundae or munch on a sarmie wherever you find yourself in Cape Town. In Table View, they’ve taken over the spot formerly held by Carlucci’s – with a partial mountain view. And in the City Bowl, you’ll find them in upper Bree Street, where the popular Jason’s Bakery was once an institution.

Firefly Café (Camps Bay)

Coffee lovers on the other side of Table Mountain can head to the newly opened Firefly Café in Victoria Road for a bite to eat, a sip of coffee and gorgeous views of the ocean and mountain.

Proof Bakery (Claremont)

This bakery has been supplying pastries and breads to restaurants (as well as to Capetonians to enjoy at home throughout lockdown), but they recently opened a new store at Belvedere Square. In addition to sampling some of the best bakes this side of town, here you can also enjoy coffee and filled sandwiches.

Rosetta Roastery (City Bowl)

Helping to give newly returned office workers in the area a high-quality range of options is Rosetta Roastery. The team packed up shop in Woodstock a few months ago but is now bringing their expertise, excellent coffee and awesome vibe to the corner of Bree and Shortmarket streets.
