New restaurant opens in Stellenbosch

 

Nestled in the tranquil Devon Valley just outside Stellenbosch, the newly opened Restaurant@Clos Malverne boasts a view to rival the best of the winelands’ bunch. Airy and modern, the lofty interior is uncluttered and seamlessly spills out onto a wraparound veranda. Chef Nadia Louws menu is uncomplicated and is packed with fresh ingredients and country flavour. After being welcomed with a complimentary glass of the estates fruity sauvignon blanc, diners can tuck into starters of Norwegian salmon salad with avo and wasabi aïoli, prawn risotto with tomato crème fraîche and ostrich carpaccio with chilli balsamic reduction. Mains include old faithfuls with sophisticated twists, such as oxtail stew with almond mash, and pan-seared duck breast with sweet-potato croquette and a deliciously sticky five-spice sauce. For dessert, the walnut and maple syrup-topped apple tart is a must, as is the decidedly more indulgent trio of crème brûleé. Vinophiles will be thrilled that all of the estates wines, including the newly launched chardonnay and flagship Auret, are available by the glass at cellar price.
