Partner content: Good times ahead at the 13th annual Wacky Wine Weekend

The thirteenth annual Wacky Wine Weekend will be taking place in the Robertson Wine Valley from 2 to 5 June 2016, this year boasting a new image and a new ticket system.

Robertson Wine Route manager Beatrix Galloway explains: “In its lucky 13th year, the Wacky Wine Weekend has a new image. We want to show the consumer that we are serious about creating our wines but we can still have fun doing so. We invite everyone who has a passion for wine to come meet the various winemakers, discover the story behind the bottle, and explore a valley filled with country charm.”

What the Wacky Wine Weekend is all about

More than 40 wine estates, boutique wineries and tourism establishments from the Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson regions will be opening their doors to the public.

Each of the participating wineries will have a feast of special activities planned to cater for everyone, whether they’re wine connoisseurs, novices, fun seekers, or even youngsters. Passionate lovers of the grape can look forward to discovering the story behind the bottle through tutored tastings, meeting the winemakers and special masterclasses.

More than just wine

To keep their energy levels up, guests can create their own picnic baskets with local olives, cheese, charcuterie and preserves from participating delis, or warm up with hearty soups, roosterkoeke and vetkoeke, and freshly baked bread with homemade jams. From elegant canapés and gourmet platters to farm-style breakfasts and dishes made from family recipes, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Music lovers can look forward to live performances (Afrikaans, blues, folk, country and classic) by the likes of Karen Zoid, Manouche, Bottomless Coffee, and more, plus there will be a number of outdoor adventures such as golf, horseshoe throwing, a vineyard trail run, a colour run and MTB rides. The kids will be kept entertained by jungle gyms, ball sports, jumping castles, face painting, a petting zoo and tractor rides.
