Pet-friendly eateries in Johannesburg

There’s just something about taking your furry friend to your favourite restaurant or coffee shop, especially if they are cute and cuddly! We’ve rounded up some of the best pet-friendly eateries and coffee shops in Johannesburg.

Goddess Café (Linden)

Among pink florals and colourful cuisine, you can spoil your pooch to a whole array of meals and treats from the Linden-based Goddess Café’s impressive pooch menu. The meals can even be ordered as frozen meals to take home. From chicken livers, rice and peas to ostrich, quinoa and gravy, your furry friend will be transported to doggy heaven in an instant. The pooch menu even includes desserts, fittingly dubbed the Cool Dogs’ Ice Cream, and it comes in the form of either a venison and coconut treat, or what they call the Blasting Biltong. Apart from the fact that Goddess Café comes with such an impressive pooch menu, its menu for actual paying customers is just as impressive. The eatery also comes with an all-pink interior for those who want to get back in touch with their feminine side, boasting some of the best backdrops for those cute pet pics for your Instagram feed.

The Gourmet Grocer (Birdhaven)

This pet-friendly eatery from Larry Hodes offers delicious Coffefe coffee (a brand that came to life during the Covid-19 pandemic) as well as snacks for your furry friend. Have your dog choose between chicken livers, a chicken breast or three doggy biscuits. At The Gourmet Grocer, you can also buy some of the best locally produced, healthy and often eco-friendly products.

The Whippet (Linden)

At The Whippet, a bar café housed in the Old Linden Hotel, people and their pets can expect to dine in style while enjoying what the neighbourhood and one of its favourite coffee spots have to offer. Apart from the fact that your pet gets to drink water from a Rial Heim bowl, The Whippet also offers puppuccinos. And your dog can even be treated to some whipped cream with a slice of bacon – a treat that might just have them want to stay for more. Should you choose to sit inside at The Whippet, your furry friend is welcome to join you, the perfect spot with winter slowly creeping up on us. The Wippet also makes their own dog biscuits, which have become known as Whippie Biscuits by locals and bring smiles to both dogs and their owners. In addition to The Whippet’s pet offerings, pet owners are also able to indulge in yummy breakfast offerings and divine delicatessen items, as well as cocktails during happy hour.

Kaylee’s Eatery (Bedfordview)

This award-winning plant-based eatery in Bedfordview sure has a thing for furry friends as they’ve created their very own Central Bark with vegan pup cakes and biscuits made by Mimi and Munch SA. This first-of-its-kind, dog-friendly café was created to offer Joburgers an amazing vegan-friendly eatery and space where they can enjoy life’s pleasures alongside their favourite fur babies. The treats they offer to their pet patrons include vet-approved pup cakes and cookies. Kaylee’s Eatery offers all-day breakfasts, gourmet waffles, salads and bowls, as well as burgers, sandwiches and healthy meals. They also have a 100% vegan supermarket and claim to have everything vegan under one roof.

Fab & Co (Parkhurst)

Parkhurst’s Fab & Co is a boutique neighbourhood eatery that also offers its patrons’ pets the basic service of a water bowl, with the addition of some doggy biscuits. They specialise in breakfasts, coffee and gelato, and they also boast a wood-fired pizza oven for delicious pizzas.
