Relax and unwind at these soulful Blues and Jazz spots in Cape Town

These popular jazz and cocktail restaurants in Cape Town are a return to the old dinner and dancing scene, providing a sense of togetherness and fun.
We have rounded up some highlights from the Mother City’s live jazz and dining spots.

The Blue Room (Bree Street)

There is a growing interest among locals in this relatively new cosy spot. The Blue Room offers cocktails and tapas, as well as live jazz and blues music from 8pm to 10.30pm. Monday through to Saturday. A mimosa is also served with live music over brunch on Saturday mornings beginning at 11am. The Blue Room is located at Grubb & Vine on the ground floor in Bree Street. There is a R200 entry fee per person. The artist’s line-up is regularly updated on their website.

Utopia Café & Lounge (Ottery)

Live music and a casual meal are the perfect combination at Utopia. From Friday to Sunday, famous local jazz musicians and bands perform. In the “Boom Boom” room, guests can kick it up a notch for an extra vibe later in the evening, or they can stay in the front sections for a more relaxed jazz atmosphere. They update their Facebook page with specials, including pizza’s, ribs, wings, chips, and more.

Pigalle (Green Point)

With a breathtaking view that creates a relaxing experience and ambiance where guests can enjoy jazz and dance to music while they dine or let loose on the dance floor. Pigalle Restaurant is an elegant restaurant that offers classic dishes with a Portuguese twist. Do not miss the live band that performs from 7:30pm, as well as the seafood special for two at a great price.

Piano bar (Devils Peak)

A New York-inspired music lounge that features jams by local pianists and singers on Tuesdays through Thursdays and special live bands on Fridays and Saturdays. With a low admission price of R30, patrons of this soulful venue can purchase delicious tapas, cocktails, and wine. Do not miss the daily happy hour specials on the website. Guests can sample their iconic cocktails in the cozy bar room.

Asoka Restaurant, Bar and Lounge (Kloof Street)

A beautiful Victorian townhouse-style restaurant with a candlelit covered patio and an olive tree that creates a lovely ambiance in the courtyard. The Asian-inspired tapas, cocktails, and laid-back jazz evenings make this place quite famous among locals. Tuesdays are the most popular, but you can also enjoy music on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The music starts at 8 pm and deep house from 10 pm.

Barristers Grill & Café (Newlands)

Barristers offers delicious food with a live band most Sundays and every other Friday. On Sundays, the live band or a musician plays from 6:30 p.m. – until about 8:30 p.m., or a little longer if the mood strikes. The restaurant also offers bar snacks like nachos, chicken baskets, steaks, and pizzas.

The Winchester Mansions (Sea Point)

One of the best brunch places in Cape Town during summer, the atmosphere and service are delightful. The garden at Winchester Mansions is relaxing and tranquil, with wonderful music playing from 12 noon to 4 pm on the last Sunday afternoon of each month in summer, which usually begins in October. A welcome champagne is served on arrival and there is a set menu depending on what the chef has prepared for the day.

Kloof Street House (Gardens)

An intimate space with a collection of many rooms that have beautiful different decoration and character. Live jazz music on Sunday afternoons is popular with locals. Guests can enjoy their cocktails inside or outside in the charming garden. This is a true haven in the city, offering relaxation to locals and tourists alike. In winter, the fireplace is cozy and warm, making guests feel right at home. The brasserie-style menu offers a two-course meal or even a three-course meal. Cocktails are both classic and with some creative fusions.
