Restaurants offering non-alcoholic drinks in Durban

With the adjusted level three of lockdown bringing with it a ban on all alcohol sales, these restaurants have adjusted their menu to bring you some new variations of non-alcoholic drinks that are just as enjoyable as the real thing and, even better, you won’t be waking up with a hangover the next morning!

Dante (Umhlanga)

Situated in the heart of Umhlanga, in place of where the old Isle Maurice used to be, Dante is the latest restaurant to hit the scene and has already become widely known as the trendiest spot to spend your weekends.  With unparalleled views overlooking the Umhlanga promenade and a vibey interior, it’s the perfect place to unwind with a mocktail in hand.  They have curated a special mocktail menu that is sure to invoke feelings of relaxing with a “real” drink in hand. A favourite is the Watermelon Basil Smash, a refreshing tall cooler of freshly pressed watermelon shaken with fresh basil leaves and topped with soda. Another popular choice is a slushy, such as the Green Stream, comprising of a cucumber, apple, ginger, lemon and rooibos-and-apple tea infusion. Think frozen margarita but one that’s totally guilt-free!

Taco Zulu (Umhlanga)

Having first opened its doors in 2003 in Florida Road, Taco Zulu recently opened up another branch in Umhlanga’s Lighthouse Road, which has quickly become just as popular. Known for their unique Mexican fusion menu and fun, vibrant interiors, it’s the perfect spot to meet up with friends for after-work drinks. Taco Zulu have stepped up to the plate to follow the current level three restrictions with a unique non-alcoholic cocktail menu to keep you in the festive mood. Some drinks on offer include Sex on the Beach, mojito and the classic Cosmopolitan.  Plus they are offering numerous specials at the moment, such as half-price on all their virgin cocktails from Tuesday to Sunday!

Nikos (Ballito)

This traditional Greek restaurant offers up the most authentic cuisine.  Their mezze platter takes you straight to Santorini as you sit looking out over the spectacular Indian Ocean. And, since you can no longer enjoy your meal with a glass of cold white wine in hand, they have altered all their cocktails on the menu to make them alcohol-free. Try their classic mojito, a strawberry daiquiri or a piña colada, among many more!

Jack Salmon (Glenashley)

Jack Salmon is known for being one of the best sushi restaurants in Durban as well as offering up a variety of other fresh, tasty seafood.  Their gin cocktails have always been a crowd-pleaser and, to keep up with popular demand even in this time of crisis for the entire restaurant industry, they have adjusted three of their most-loved cocktails to make them non-alcoholic. On offer are the strawberry and basil, the white peach and blueberry, and the pomegranate and rosemary. All of them are just as tasty as their original counterparts.

Tiger’s Milk Suncoast (Suncoast Casino)

If you’re looking for somewhere closer to the city, Tiger’s Milk Suncoast is the perfect place to enjoy a scrumptious meal while looking out over Durban’s promenade. Famous for their mouth-watering burgers, they are now offering an entire non-alcoholic menu where you can choose from beers, ciders, white or red wine, sparkling wine and three delicious virgin cocktails! This menu definitely offers something for everyone. The three cocktails on offer are a classic mojito, a strawberry daiquiri and the Sherbet Smack. Be sure to head on over for their lunch special, which runs from 12 to 4pm every weekday and includes a Step Child Burger with chips plus a Heineken 0.0 300ml draught for only R85.
