Food

The restaurant of this family-owned hotel group pairs flair with comfort in its elegant and extensive offering. The menu will surprise you with its variety, making it easy to find something for every taste while being consistently flavourful and fresh. This spot is worth taking the time for all three courses, so grab a starter like the crunchy baked wrapped camembert with its warm, oozing centre, or thin slices of carpaccio that highlight the flavour of the springbok.

For mains you may have a hard time choosing, such as whether to go with the hearty coconut chickpea curry or a honey and mustard Beyond Burger from the vegan menu. Meat-eaters will have it no easier picking between seafood, poultry and meat. You could go with a gourmet hotdog, topped with bacon, caramelised onions and sour cherry jelly. Everything on the menu comes well-presented in good portions, with a great flavour profile, so you’ll want to come back to try something new.

The dessert menu isn’t to be missed, featuring a New York cheesecake and a rich chocolate Mississippi mud pie.

Drinks

Cuisine Afrique extends their love for variety and good flavour to their wide wine menu, which champions local wines across varieties and South African regions. There are some lovely Italian vintages to choose from, as well as a variety of proseccos, MCCs and even authentic champagne.

But you’d be missing out if you don’t venture into the cocktail offering, including dessert drinks like chocolate or chai pedro. A particular highlight is the section that pairs cocktails with your meal choice, like the short rib beer tail, recommended with pork, which is a twist on a mojito by including beer into the refreshing mix. For a touch of theatrics, the smoked cinnamon Old Fashioned will fill your drink and palette with woody smoke.

Even the non-alcoholic drink section offers variety, from Culture Lab kombucha to superfood smoothies.

Service

Service is seamless, from booking to paying the bill. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable, willing to talk through the menu with you and describe the dishes. Your needs are well met and attended to, and while the food may take a little while, it’s worth it.

Ambience

Cuisine Afrique is a little hidden away, making it an intimate and calm space despite its significant size. You’ll find a good spot regardless of the weather, whether at a cosy fireplace inside or at a table in the hotel gardens outside. The decorations are arty, with an elegant but welcoming touch, including a proud display of the venue’s love for wines from across the country. Even though the setting is a little more formal, children are welcomed warmly.
