Food

A family-run patisserie and boulangerie that kneads together Lebanese and French cuisine.

The Zaki family have created a beautiful homage to the culture of sidewalk cafes. The a la carte menu is small but comprehensive. The prawn roll is heavenly with plump pink prawns in a Marie Rose sauce, and avocado and lettuce inside a toasted brioche roll served with crisp, hot pomme frites. The halloumi fries are certainly an ode to the Zaki family’s Middle Eastern roots and are crisp on the outside yet soft on the inside. The addition of a beetroot puree and tahini and mint sauce is a fresh, zingy contrast to the fries.

Try the baked Alaska as it is sheer perfection and indulgence. Live your best life by breaking into creamy torched meringue to access the cold pistachio ice-cream, soft and sweet vanilla sponge and tart rose jelly.

Drinks

The restaurant has a limited and rather pricey wine list with a selection of whites, reds and bubbles. However, their speciality is most certainly tea. The tea section of the menu is extensive featuring interesting flavours such as rose, vanilla, mint, jasmine and chocolate!

Service

The waiters are stylishly dressed and are polite and generally attentive. They are knowledgeable about the teas on offer as well as the other menu items and give helpful suggestions.

Ambience

Just Teddy is beautifully designed, giving you the experience of a Parisian sidewalk cafe. The teapots, cutlery and even water glasses are elegant and dainty and fit the theme perfectly. It is a shame that the restaurant is right in the middle of Hyde Park Corner Shopping Centre, next to the Pick n Pay, with most of the dining area situated in the mall walkway itself. This does crush the fantasy a bit and the bustle of the mall can become distracting at times. However, on a weekday morning or lunch, it’s generally quite relaxed.
