StreetSmart has raised over R4 million towards upliftment projects for street children since June 2005, simply by collecting voluntary R5 donations from each table’s bill at participating restaurants. This July, to raise even more awareness, StreetSmart will be running a Winter Special week. From 18 to 24 July 2011, some 57 restaurants in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Strand, Franschhoek, Paarl and Citrusdal, will be offering two and three-course meals at a fraction of their usual cost.

“We are deeply grateful for all the generous support and contributions each and every restaurant that has joined this initiative has made. It is because of these restaurants that we as an organisation can embark on making the lives of street children better and help to create a safe place for them to go to,” said Margi Biggs, chairperson of the organisation in South Africa.
