The winners of 2009s Prudential Eat Out Awards have finally been announced! The glitzy gala event took place on Sunday, 22 November at the Westin Grand Hotel ballroom in Cape Town. Hosting the event was the dashing Mark Bayly of Survivor SA fame.
The menu showcased gourmet treats created by the best of SA’s culinary industry, Laurent Deslandes, Luke Dale-Roberts, Michael Broughton and Richard Carstens, who all took a bow during the chefs parade after dessert.
Next, Eat Out editor Abigail Donnelly joined Bayly for the much-anticipated presentation of the awards. Bright young thing Joy Mavi was awarded the coveted Woolworths TASTE Bursary Award, while Rust en Vrede Restaurant was lauded for its service excellence. The Prudential Eat Out Top 10 followed, featuring new addition The Roundhouse in fifth place, and a surprise shared 10th position going to Overture and Le Quartier Français. La Colombe was victorious once again and was crowned Restaurant of the Year, making it a two-year winning streak for chef Luke Dale-Roberts, and Chantel Dartnall of Restaurant Mosaic was crowned Eat Outs Chef of the Year.
