Situated on Van Riebeeck Street in Stellenbosch, The Fat Butcher opened up three months ago, serving hormone-free beef in some pretty interesting guises. Think steak tartare with hand-chopped fillet, mustard, capers, lava salt, parsley, yolk and cognac, and The Grosvenor, a fillet steak served with chocolate, chilli and beer sauce and bubbling bone marrow. Other signature dishes include the skaapstertjies – lamb tails wrapped in net-vet, chargrilled and served with peri-peri sauce – and the van Riebeeck burger with a 300g handmade beef patty, bacon, blue cheese and FatButcher chutney.
In addition to the restaurant, there’s also a deli section where you can pick up great quality meat to prepare at home.
