La Bottega restaurant in Woodstock, Cape Town, is hosting a festival* dedicated to all things bacon on Saturday 25 July 2015. Guests are invited to embark on an all-you-can-eat bacon extravaganza for R250 per person.

Dishes include a pork and bacon slider, pork and bacon frikkadels, mini pork and bacon pizza, mielies wrapped in bacon on a stick, candied bacon, pork chops wrapped in bacon with an apple-bacon sauce, potato salad with bacon, pigs in a bacon blanket, bacon popcorn, and crackling.

Andre Swanepoel, director of the Baconfest, says the dishes are served buffet-style, and you have five hours to indulge as much as you like. Wash it all down with two draughts of Brannas brandy and cola on tap (included in the ticket price).

Guests with tickets to the second session of the day can also head to the Boston Breweries craft beer tent (smoking area) to watch the South Africa vs New Zealand rugby match, which kicks off at 5pm. There will also be board games to entertain the non-sports fans. Wine and soft drinks will be available at the cash bar. Credit card facilities are available.

“All in all, a great time, great people, a really good day out,” promises Andre.

150 tickets are available for the afternoon session from 12 noon to 5pm, and 150 tickets are available for the evening session from 5pm to 10pm. (Available at Webtickets.) There will be enough seating for everybody and free secure parking is available at Buchanan Square. Visit www.baconfestsa.co.za/ for more information.

You won’t be able to take home any leftovers – your arteries will thank you – as surplus food will be donated to St Anne’s Homes, a Woodstock-based NGO that provides shelter and care for destitute, abused and disadvantaged mothers and their children.

If you prefer quality over quantity, head to Bacon on Bree for ethically farmed and expertly cured bacon.
