Eat like a chef: Zola Nene’s favourite restaurants

Head’s up, cooks! Celebrity chef and our very own restaurant editor Zola Nene has just released her latest recipe book and it looks even more delicious than the first (if that’s even possible). We caught up with Zola around the (gin-filled) water cooler to see how she’s feeling after the exciting Cape Town launch at The Gin Bar and to get the scoop on her favourite places to eat right now.

Entitled Simply Zola, the new book follows up on on her first release, Simply Delicious, and it came as an easy transition after the first instalment: “This being my second book meant that the process was quite familiar and was a breeze,” says Zola. “I worked with the same wonderful team from Penguin Random House so everything went off without a hitch.” What can you find inside? “It’s filled with more of my favourite simple and delicious recipes and the stories behind why I love them,” she says.

We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask our restaurant ed for her hottest picks in Cape Town at the moment:

The best place for breakfast or brunch is…

Between Us on Bree Street. I’m still raving about that oat porridge they have!

A hidden gem restaurant that everyone should know about is…

Harvest Café in the Bo-Kaap. It’s got beautiful views, the interior is pretty too and the lighting is perfect for Instagram pics!

Hottest dinner spot right now is…

Upper Bloem in Green Point. The way the menu pays homage to Cape Malay food but with a modern interpretation is fantastic.
