La Terrace Rooftop Café - Lizel Stemmet, 29 September 2015 Walking up the stairs lit by the typical mysterious Moroccan lanterns and Berber rugs on the walls, swept me immediately back into the unique city of Marrakesh. The northern African music, the friendly reception of Joehan and his team and the freshly squeezed orange juice with a dash of rosewater reminded me of the Jemaa el-Fna square in the middle of Marrakesh. Another interesting choice was the Moroccan infused cordial with rose, hibiscus, mint or cinnamon. There is quite a big variety to choose from for a starter, everything typical of the true Moroccan cuisine. A good choice was indeed the Moroccan Cauliflower Soup with its lingering aftertaste of saffron. Then came the Lamb tagine with dates and honey and once again I was for a moment back in Quarzazate next to the Sahara Desert. The combination of the meat with the dates and honey is surely a feast to all one's senses! Dessert was a difficult choice between Orange Blossom Cheesecake in Moroccan tea glasses, Rosewater Brownies with Rose and Saffron Syrup or the Sheklat Malika Chocolate Queen - a rich decadent chocolate tart with nuts, spices, a hint of chilli with rose flavoured whipped cream. The heady fragrance of the rose water transported me back to the Kelaat Rose Valley outside Marrakesh. To top this meal off, what about a cup of cardamom coffee.....! When I left La Terrace's Rooftop Café, it was with a sense of deep contentment. La Terrace Rooftop Café created a unique atmosphere of tranquility with the bubbling fountain which can be heard the whole time while eating. They have done a marvelous job with their decorating to transport one back into another culture, another time and a very unique experience while eating since all their food has the true Moroccan ingredients of heady spices, mint, pomegranate, olives, charnoula tomato sauce, platters of hummus, a special harira soup and of course the traditional tagines. Amazingly their prices are also very reasonable. Truly a place of MAGIC!
