Mulberry & Prince

Three of us dined at Mulberry & Prince last night and for a Tuesday evening (and a rather cold, rainy one) the restaurant was full! Yes, it may be a small place but point here is that one definitely needs to book in advance. Food is meant for sharing (tapas), although there are a few dishes that could be for one as a main meal (such as the pork) if sharing isn't your thing. We opted for quite a variety of dishes to share including: bacaiao fritters as our first nibble; kohlrabi salad (thin cucumber-like shavings of cabbage) with persimmon and hazelnuts (delicious: simple and fresh); stracciatella (also simple and great); lamb ribs; octopus (delicious); ricotta dumplings (delicious), and the pork. We were then sold on the idea of the 70% dark chocolate cake, which was pretty much like eating a 70% piece of Lindt - the perfect end. Tapas portions were perfect for sharing with 3 people as we had a better taste of each plate. The only gripe is that while our waitress did tell us that dishes came out slowly so we will have time between meals (we were worried we had over ordered), she was being serious; we waited about 20 or so minutes per plate of food. This probably would have been better for a Thurs/Fri/Sat evening. They still don't have their liquor licence, so definitely take your own wine (to be honest I didn't check whether they charged for corkage as mentioned in one of the reviews below). Our total for the evening was R820 ex tip. It is a cool space and I probably will be back
