My gorgeous fiancé and I decided to break from our tradition of leisure Sunday lunching and booked at the Bellgables in Muldersdrift. We heard and read the accolades and decided it was time. Striking décor, that’s if you like mock Tuscan combined with an eclectic mixture of Bohemian clutter that would make Toulouse-Lautrec turn in his grave. We started with a country greens salad (R60) and both settled for oven baked lamb shank (R145). The salad was an insipid mix of greens, and at R60 we expected much more. Leave a lamb shank long enough in the oven and anybody can cook it off the bone The sauce was stodgy and laced with mint jelly; not bad but we expected much more at the price.. I could still tolerate the décor, but I don’t rate wine served in red (yes, red) flute glasses as conducive to good taste. The restaurant is way overpriced for the quality of food it is serving, and most definitely not worth the drive. In general, here bad taste comes at a price.
