Owner's description

Restaurant Amore serves genuine Italian cuisine, cooked to perfection by an Italian chef. The menu changes daily with the dishes inspired by traditional food served in Rome, as well as modern variations, with gnocchi to die for. The produce is sourced from local sources as well as imported specialty ingredients from Italy. The wine selection complements the flavour and features great Italian wines and some of the outstanding local wines. The décor is elegant and harmonious and is a great place for a quiet reunion with friends, a business meeting that will impress your client or as a romantic evening. The service is impeccable, attentive, non-intrusive – so you can enjoy your company, the food and the wine. Restaurant Amore was privileged to be awarded four stars from the renowned food critic – Jos Baker – one of the highest commendation that can be given. You can book the restaurant for a private function for up to 32 people. To find out pricing and options, please email us.

A meal at Amore is one of my favourite food occasions. This owner run restaurant is always striving to offer the best food and experience. The pasta and gnocchi are sublime, and the desserts made lovingly by Dessy, are delicious. The mille feuille is perfection! Thank you Kiki, Dessy and Lawrence for your generous hospitality.
We just keep going back. Every time the menu is a little different and always good. The service is great. Even when it's busy! Great house wine and a real gem to find in this area.
Amore is a lovely, intimate Italian restaurant owned by an Italian couple. I love that they have an extensive wine list of both South African and Italian wines. The food is delicious. I loved the butternut ravioli and pork medallions. My only complaint is that the desserts (I have tried 2 of their 3 desserts) are not great which is disappointing considering the food is so fantastic.
Yesterday evening I had the most unfortunate experience at this restaurant. My wife ordered the special of three courses and I ordered a main which I explained to the owner/manageress and explained that we would be sharing the first course and she said she would split it on to two plates. On receipt of the bill I noticed that each course had been itemised instead of accumulated as the special. Assuming that the owner had over looked this, I queried it with her and was told that under the special it was written that there was no sharing, and as we had shared the first course the special had now become itemised. Which incidentally was not explained to me when I ordered. I explained I eat out regularly and have visited their restaurant on more than one occasion and have never been charged like this and said I will pay the bill but will never return. To which she replied, ‘that I am putting her on the spot’. To which I replied, ‘How can I be when I have offered to pay but will never return’. To which she took my card and I paid.
Three of us went to Amore for the first time several months ago on a night when it was fully booked and all tables arrived within a short space of time, despite bookings having been staggered. As a result, service was slow and with everyone spending more time talking than eating, the noise level was high. It would have been unfair to write a detailed review of that evening, especially when Dessy (the chef's wife) and our waiter were so charmingly apologetic for the delays, and kept us informed of progress. Yet the memory of the delicious lamb cutlets I ate that night still lingers, and has stopped me from ordering a similar dish at other restaurants since then, because I felt sure I would be disappointed. So it was with great anticipation that I returned to Amore a week ago, and I am happy to say that everything was perfect! Once again there were three of us. We ordered a starter portion of carpaccio to share while deciding on our main courses. Dessy brought us some warm and beautifully light bread rolls which were the perfect accompaniment, and small enough not to spoil our appetites for what followed. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their gnocchi and fish dishes, while my pasta with wild boar sausage and silky-soft porcini mushrooms in a creamy sauce was lick-the-bowl delicious! After that we shared what I think was called Semifreddo di ricotta al caffè: a biscuit topped with a rounded mound of light ricotta dessert, drizzled with a coffee-caramel sauce. It was heavenly – next time I'll think twice about sharing it. Amore is officially my current favourite local restaurant!
