The Aphrodisiac Shack, also called the Smokery Deli, is situated on the banks of the Theewaterskloof Dam. They cold-smoke fresh organic local produce like vegetables and garlic and hot-smoke mostly meats using apple and oak woods. The small deli is stocked with an appetising selection of apple hot-smoked trout, cold-smoked trout, duck prosciutto, free-range apple-smoked chicken and duck breast, cured loin fillet, salami, chorizo and cheese, as well as pâtés, butter, olive and balsamic oil – the list is as tempting as it is endless. Ethical shopper tip: At the Aphrodisiac Shack all smoking is done the old-fashioned way, controlling the draft and temperature by hand.
