Food

The menu, while simple to some, will make any toast-loving foodie swoon – there's even a section for "Things on Toast". If you're here for an early brekkie, check out the blackboard for hearty and wholesome plates of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or granola with fresh fruit. Else go for one of the eggy toast options like perfectly boiled eggs with salami or emmenthal on sourdough. You can also make up a plate with deli goodies like creamy avo slices, a fried egg and some meaty mushrooms.

Come brunch or lunch, sandwiches (served on ciabattini, sourdough or gluten-free bread) save the day. There's a sarmie filled with mixed grilled veggies like zucchini, aubergine, pickled red peppers, emmenthal and homemade basil pesto; a satisfying sando of tuna, mayonnaise, gherkin, tomato and rocket; or a diner-style hot beef on rye with hot pastrami, sauerkraut, mustard and Russian dressing. There's also the most outstanding sardines, tomato and red onion toast option that will become your new obsession.

If you're all about grilled cheese toasties, then this is the place for you. There's no other way to describe them other than the best you'll find in the Mother City. There's definitely no holding back with the amount of butter or cheese used – and no one's complaining. Simply served as is, they come golden while oozing onto the plate with some serious cheese pull.

Not into cheese? The egg mayo toastie is an exceptional alternative. There's also a pizza toastie, which comes with cheese, tomato, anchovies and origanum. Pro tip: when ordering any of the toasties, ask for the house hot sauce for a spicy kick.

Other options (and equally as delicious) include some pretty epic salads. There's Greek; Caprese; tuna mayo; steak tagliata with artichokes and parmesan; and salad of the day, which features on the specials board. There's also a special salad niçoise with house vinaigrette.

If you're after something sweet, the deli counter comes stacked with daily baked goodies, including the famed chocolate brownies from Bree Street's The General Store; freshly baked beignets from Egg & Shoulders; and lemon-poppyseed cuties (tiny little cake-like muffins) made by Shaina Herman.

You can also stock up on some groceries with everything from cheeses and deli meats; fresh veg from Umthunzi Farming Community; tortillas from El Burro Mercado; 4WKS coffee pods; olive oil; homemade chilli sauce; and so much more.

Drinks

Sip on something out of the well-stocked fridges (from coconut water and kombucha to CBD-infused sodas from Dope) or order a brilliant mug of Deluxe Coffeeworks from the ever-smiling barista, Gift. Also important (for kids and adults alike): you can even order pink Nesquik.

Service

Entertaining and so welcoming. You'll definitely feel like part of the "fam" after one visit.

Ambience

You'll feel like you've walked onto the set of everyone's favourite sitcom. From the moment you enter, with the "Whaddup Fam" signage on the floor, the space just screams quirky, cute and inviting. Perch at the window seat inside or grab a spot at one of the sidewalk tables and watch Sea Point locals pass you by. You can also bring your pooch along to enjoy some shady kerbside treats.
