Owner's description

Discover an unexpected delight in French Provincial inspired cafe culture in the heart of Durbanville. The in-house decor will delight your eyes and inspire the interior decorator within. This cultivated joy is the inspiration for the food menu, which is uncomplicated – but as decadent and cheeky as the chocolate cherry favours.

Their attention to detail is amazing and the decor is one of a kind. Great variety of tasty food. Service is sometimes slow, but the awesome vibe makes up for that.
I'm not sure whether the service refers to the waitress because Goldy was excellent but the day's manager was truly 'running the business' and not customer friendly at all. Our group are fairly regular visitors as individuals but today was the last! My friend ordered breakfast with the option to have a side salad. On arrival the salad was on the plate with enough dressing already poured on top. The waitress after consultation with the chef confirmed that there is garlic in the dressing. She was asked to take the plate as my friend was allergic to garlic and replace the order without the salad. The manageress immediately approached my friend to tell her that she will have to pay for 2 plates. She was not prepared in any way to accommodate my friend and just wanted to scrape off the salad. Needless to say she did not take the option and shared my bread and preserve! So beware Chocolat any runs a business and does not care to please!
Wish I read some of the above reviews before going to this place. Very poor service. Waited over an hour for our food which didn't arrive. Complained to our waitress who spoke to the manager. Manager did not care at all. Also spoke to Annette (main manager) on leaving and she did not care at all that we were not satisfied by ther service. Be warned. VERY poor service. Food looked average. Wife tried a chai latte and it was not good at all. We went for a breakfast and upon leaving was told by the manager to enjoy lunch! Funny indeed.
I have always liked the food although the service is never good. We had lunch at Chocolate on Saturday. The food took a very long time and the lasagna was tasteless. When we wanted to order dessert we were told that the kitchen closes at 2.00 pm. Not a good time to close on a Saturday. They decided to make us dessert anyway and then they were out of chocolate - so we didn't have dessert. I have given them a lot of chances but no more.
Have been here for breakfast a number of times, but sadly , this will probably be the last. We could hardly hear ourselves think, since a guy at a nearby table was clearly running his business (with management approval ?) at the top of his voice. There goes the "ambience"! I would advise against having Eggs Benedict. The rosti was like leather, and may have been reheated once too often, while the Hollandaise "sauce" could quite easily have passed for porridge.
