Owner's description

French Connection Bistro is a casual, vibey, indoor and outdoor dining space popular with Franschhoek locals and tourists visiting our unique, small village. Our bustling restaurant is fully air-conditioned for those long, hot summer days and has two fireplaces for cozy winter evenings. We have two outside areas – the front verandah where you can watch the world go by and the courtyard, a sheltered and quieter area at the back. We will happily host your function or special occasion and will design a menu to suit you. A powerful backup generator ensures that the lights never go out even when Eskom lets us down! Enjoy local specialties and some French bistro favourites. A daily specials board ensures that we showcase only the freshest produce that our chefs can source. We invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy the French Connection’s food, great wine selection and warm hospitality while visiting the Franschhoek Wine Valley.

I have a love for most things French, and without surprise I've fallen in love with this charming bistro in Franschhoek. The warm and welcoming atmosphere complements the fantastic French cuisine (that doesn't cost you an arm or a leg). Unpretentious, both young and old, local and foreign will find themselves at home here. Make sure to book outside in summer. I'd recommend the mussels for starters and the crispy duck for main. End the meal with the Belgian chocolate tart. And like the French say mangez bien, riez souvent, aimez beaucoup!
Had a lovely dinner on Christmas Eve - the food was delicious, service excellent, portions well-sized and prices reasonable.

Having spent a week on the Western Cape Garden Route eating at various unique restaurants we ended our tour with a meal at The French Connection in Franschhoek. This was sadly the biggest disappointment of meals for the week. The attitude, although claiming to be "inviting" on the menus, left much to be desired. We had finished dry steaks and frozen vegetables and chips, although I had ordered potatoes, within 45 minutes and no drinks refill - we cannot comment on the desserts as the service and general food quality found us leaving when eventually obtaining the bill. A sad end to a week of mostly outstanding meals.

What a great find in Franschhoek! Unpretencious great food and very well priced menu and wine list. Perfectly seared salmon trout and fish cakes to die for, keep it up! We will be back.

Poor hygiene of staff. Overpriced restaurant. No ambience and shocking service.
