Owner's description

Hard Rock Cafe Johannesburg is the latest addition to the iconic Nelson Mandela Square. The cafe offers dining on the square, with seating for over 90 people on the Hard Rock terrace. The marble bar takes prominence at the cafe, as customers are able to enjoy views of the square. Over 200 people can be accommodated in the restaurant, which features aged leather American diner-style banquette seating.

Terrible experience and very disappointing We visited Hard Rock Cafe, Mandela Square to celebrate my son’s 17th birthday and had planned a special family day out, with lunch at the restaurant as one of the highlights. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The first issue was the price. I have no problem paying premium prices for excellent food, but R219 for a burger sets a very high expectation. At that price, one would expect something truly exceptional. My wife ordered the Messi Chicken Burger for R199. The menu picture shows a thick, crumbed chicken fillet, so naturally we expected something substantial. Sadly, after taking the first bite, she opened the burger and found that the “patty” consisted of four thin, dried-out, overcooked strips of crumbed chicken. It looked nothing like what was advertised and was extremely disappointing. We also ordered the Original Legendary Burger and the BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger. While the burgers were large and the beef patties were cooked well, there was nothing particularly memorable or special about them. They certainly did not justify the price tag. The drinks were equally overpriced: R75 for a Windhoek Draft and R90 for a Rock Shandy felt excessive. Overall, this meal was simply not worth the money. For the prices charged, we expected far better quality and a much better overall experience, especially on such an important family occasion. Sadly, we will not be returning, and I would not recommend it to others. You are honestly better off visiting a good local takeaway, where you know what to expect at a fraction of the cost.
you guys rock i was in mandela square recently shopping with my friends that came from the States and curious to visit your clothing store they were so impressed the atmosphere was awesome Bob was amazing he gave us royal treat. malia yav
Cheaper than a plane ticker to the USA! Ok, I have to start out by confessing I moved to SA from the US so maybe I have different tastes than others here? Anyeays, we visted the Hard Rock Cafe today and it was amazing. Great food and great atmosphere. After the Nachos, we were already stuffed. Rock On!
OK this was the worst eating experience in Sandton ever and that is a lot to ask for on Nelson Mandela square that is ringed with fad overpriced restaurants. But yes the Hard Rock Cafe takes the crown as the worst of a pretty bad bunch. If you expect service this is not the place for you a wait of 30 minutes before food arrives and the same amount of time for a waiter to appear seems to be acceptable, a burger at R109 gives you processes cheese and if you look very carefully some meat. Maybe they are trying to convert South Africa to vegetarianism or something? My companions had ribs and those where as dry as the Sahara desert on complaining the food was taken away and 10 minutes later returned at a more acceptable level, but still not great. Walking across the square to the steak house will produce a more satisfying experience for the same amount of money and the service will be world class. Here is hoping that this establishment disappears as soon as possible from the Sandton landscape never to be seen ever again.

My only advise do yourself a big favour and avoid at all cost
Great food, a little pricy, but still good! The vibe and atmosphere is great! A nice, fun spot! Their shakes are also very good.
