Owner's description

Kaya Beach is a specialist outdoor restaurant set in a cosy island style, with beach sand and marine décor. The ‘island’ is exceptionally friendly for families of all ages. There is ample space for kids to run around and play in the sand. There is a set menu that consists of a six course meal. Patrons need to bring their own drinks. The system of BYOB, or bring your own favourite drink is very popular, and also adds to the laid back and relaxed approach one would normally take as a beach goer.

We have been there 3 times now. The atmosphere is very nice. It is what you make it and you have the opportunity to make it great. Unfortunately the food is not really to my taste. The meat pots (I dont eat seafood) always taste sweet and they all taste the same. Sometimes it can be difficult to get a hold of a staff member, but it's not all bad. I think it's worth a try and make up your own mind.
Booked for valentines day and paid full price up front and not only deposit. On arrival there was no reception, didn't know were to go. After starters we waited over an hour for mains. We asked 2 staff members but not one came back with reply. Spoke to the manager and her response was "sorry sorry it was hectic" but the place wasn't even that busy at all. They recommended we take take aways wich will take another 15-20min and we left without eating. Will not recommend or be returning.
Went for women's day and must say that overall it was a good experience. Just a couple of small things that I believe will really make it a great experience: 1) please ask your clients if they are smokers or non smokers, I believe smoking should not be aloud under the tent area where the guest are eating. There is enough outside space for the smoker guest to go and enjoy there cigarette's. Disturbing though was the fact that small children was also eating in the tent area where smoking was open to anyone. 2) please keep to your time schedule, late comers should slot in with the majority and not the other way around. The lunch started late and then after the starters was eaten we waited more than an hour for the 2nd course. Whether this was only due to the late comers I don't know! The remaining courses was served very close together which made me feel rushed and not really able to enjoy them. 3) lastly I think if you had 2 area's for the clients to dish up, it will really make the queue a lot shorter and most people on a table can enjoy there food together. On our table some already finished there meal by the time the others got back to the table. Just my thoughts on the day. Regards Lydia
What an incredible experience! Will definitely be back soon. The food was spectacular, even though I ate far too much:) 6 course buffet style meal. Eat as much as you like. Their chicken potjie is absolutely something to write home about. I nearly licked my plate. I loved that you could bring your own cooler box because I am really specific with what I like to drink so there wasn't a case of the restaurant not being able to provide me with my choice of drink. Sipping away with my toes in the sand. Loved it! I see that they are open over the Easter weekend; hmmmmm.....
