A button up your shirt steakhouse with class and elegance. New York restaurant under guidance of chef patron Spiro is a must for a great meal in Bloemfontein. The restaurant has class, elegance, value for money food and definitely the best matured steaks on offer in Bloemfontein. Not a restaurant where you would expect to see children even though there is a great kiddie’s menu.

If beef carpaccio is on your favourites list, you will not be disappointed as this restaurant serves an awesome portion of well flavoured carpaccio with fresh parmesan shavings, good quality olive oil and all the trimmings. The good classic garlic snails was served in a slightly too thick bechamel and unfortunately with store bought bread. Amazing steaks! Fillet steak Diane is a favourite - 28 days matured prime fillet steak, rubbed with mustard, pan-fried with mushrooms, onions, tomato Concasse, flamed with brandy and finished off with a creamy demi-glace sauce is just one of the dishes that will leave you begging for more.
The seafood menu is so extensive that you could easily be forgiven for thinking that you are at the coast. The Kingklip thermidor, cooked in a rich mushroom, cream and white wine sauce is definitely on the recommended list for a next visit. Great value for money for the person who wishes to be spoilt with great service and good food. Private dining rooms make corporate dinners or private parties possible here with no disturbances around. This restaurant obviously caters for the big meat eaters and could possibly pay a little more attention to their desserts, but a good old Don Pedro still rounded off our meal pretty well.

Possibly one of the most comprehensive wine lists in the Free State can be found here. No sommelier – however, our waiter was very well versed with the wines and paring options.

Fantastic service was given by J-R Steyl, a true professional and a pleasure as waiter.

Classic décor and ambience with ample table space and no clutter. Solid cutlery and crisp linen.

Best for…
Family meals, corporate lunch or dinner meetings, private parties.

We went there as a family and enjoyed everything there. The sevice was good and the food was great. We will be back again.
I just had to explain to someone why I will never go to this restaurant again. So I am going to write it here too. Me and my husband went to the restaurant about two months ago. Everything is slow and the waiter seemed so down. we asked him what the problem was and he was telling us how the owner (Javis) treats them. Waiters who are seving tables for big groups should be payed better and get a percentage because apparently they do not. These people seem so sad. I cannot support a place like that.
Bad part of town. Waiters looked bored and not very neat. Manager is rude to the staff. The manager made a raciest joke. Not impressed.
My family's most recent visit to New York left us with a bad taste in our mouths (pun intended). The Short Version: Don't be fooled by the positive reviews, in recent years New York has not only moved it's location but also changed owners. The "new" New York rides on the coat tails of a once good establishment leaving it a beautifully painted dumpster. The long version: Our family kept on going back to New York hoping that it would return to its former glory but after the incident that I am about to tell you about we will not be returning again. My wife and I decided to take the family, visiting for a few days, out to dinner. We decided on going to New York as her parents had never been there. As we drove up to the restaurant's parking area, the shoddy dressed car guards (who were busy harassing a group of female pedestrians) came running up to our car to harass us as they always do. In the hopes of them not damaging our car we promised them their blackmail money. After walking into the restaurant we were met by a very young, overly made up, hostess. New York restaurant almost exclusively employs young girls who wear makeup not suited for their age, making one wonder what sort of clientele they are catering for. It became apparent very quickly why the other waiters were rolling their eyes and mumbling to one another as the young woman was taking us to our table. After a wink and a wry smile was exchanged between the young hostess and the slightly older male waiter who would be attending to our table, their romantic involvement became uncomfortably clear. Unfortunately the food did not make up the rocky start to the evening. In fact, it was about to make things even worse. After a long wait on a night that was very much not busy, our food arrived. The presentation was that of food that had been reheated in a microwave. As for the taste: the microwave was not on for long enough. Luke warm food, sauce that had undoubtedly been scooped up from someone else's leftovers and reused and tough meat. After explaining to the waiter, who had been staring at my daughter all night, why we were not satisfied, he took the food back to the kitchen. In the time we were waiting for our food to return, another table had complained about something and called the manager. The manager thought it appropriate to make a spectacle by yelling at the poor waiter serving that table, use extremely foul language in his broken English accent and then push her. Disgraceful. The food returned, still not up to standard, but after witnessing the manager's way of handling the other table's situation we decided not to push it any further. Upon writing this I have been informed that the manger is in fact also the owner. New York restaurant charges exuberant prices for sub par food. Go to any other restaurant, go to McDonald's for all I care. Just don't waste your money at New York.
Good restaurant. White serviettes etc. Food is acceptable to good, with a cold ambience.
