I will not recommend anybody to ever visit this place. You are safer at a local shebeen it would seem. The bouncers are worst than gangsters and don't even seem to be from South Africa. They are even aggressive towards females. The whole point of having bouncers there are to protect the staff and patrons from other patrons that get out of hand. Our waiter was rude and flung our bill on our table and when we questioned him the bouncer literally threw us out. Then we requested to speak to the manager/owner and the bouncer got even more aggressive. How can you go to a place and spend your money there only to be treated wit such disrespect. It is probably the worst hang out spot in Durban and I assure you that anybody that goes there will regret it.
Were there on various days during the end of Deecember 2014 as well as today on 1 January 2015. Always out of stock on something, especialy draught beer. Food over priced for waht you get (e.g. Chicken livers at R65 whilst all restaurants in the region charge about R50). Clearly they want as many people through as possible, as the waiters push you to order to esnure turn over at the tables. Atmosphere is non existent and like the previous review on this website, the bathroom facilities is beyond shocking. In the male toilets all urinals are out of order, the toilets are dark and smelly. It is not worth the name News Cafe, absoltuely shocking, shocking. Should be closed down by News Cafe it is an absolute disgrace.

We had a snack and drinks at Newscafe Umhlanga on 2nd of Jan and the service was shocking, we where one of four tables waiting and complaining, our food arrived cold and not with everything the menu stated, the ladies toilets where disgusting and the owner had a seriously bad attitude slamming the door when we complained! Shocking for a big name like News Cafe. I will never go back
