Owner's description

PL8 Restaurant is the latest addition to Keychain Hospitality. Just off the popular, bustling Florida Road, the restaurant softens its industrial look with plush furnishings and ambient lighting. The open, interactive kitchen serves a variety of light meals and fresh dishes – with a selection of breakfasts, sandwiches, grills and pizza. There’s also a stylish bar area and a comfortable outside patio for guests who prefer to socialise and simply enjoy the vibe.

HI, I really wasted my time going here. The venue looks nothing like the picture above but more like a canteen. The menu does not have anything exciting as shown in the website. Thanks

We arrived fairly early for our dinner and parked right outside the front door (parking in Gordon road is plentiful). The restaurant is currently undergoing a refurbishment to the outside dinning area and it certainly looks like it could be a good place to soak up some sun as Durban starts to warm up. We were ushered to our seats in a sparsly decorated modern looking room. The kitchen is directly off the main dinning area and one can look straight in, which is something I value at a restuarant as long as the chef has not woken up on the wrong side of the bed. However the restaurant was rather empty and with no music the lack of ambiance was accentuated. Luckily my partner and I had a fair bit of catching up to do so our chatter made up for the silance. Unfortunately the reception is at the back of the dining area and the coversations and telephone was somewhat disturbing. Perhaps this would not be an issue if there was some background music. The menu was fairly extensive but with little different from the standard cosmopolitan options available in Durban these days. My partner is a vegetarian and there was a big enough selection to keep her happy. The pricing was reasonable and so was the standard of the food. Our waiter was a little over friendly but this is probably because he had no one else to wait on for most of the night so we provided his only entertainment. I am not sure I would go for dinner again until a few changes are made, but I am still interested to try out the lunch menu on a sunny day when the outside venue is finished.

We went to a birthday party here not really knowing what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised with great food and even better service! A lovely evening.
