This place was packed last Saturday morning. We took it as a good sign and grabbed the last table. The Vredehoek wind was howling, but we lucked out with a corner (fairly sheltered) table in the sun. The menu is very affordable – I think that's the reason for the crowd. There are some basic options from around R40. I had a good Caprese omlet (R65) – loaded with cheese, fresh basil and cherry tomatoes. My partner's poached eggs were somewhat over medium (and done in one of those poaching pans rather than water poached), but we weren't too unhappy. Coffee was decent – Deluxe I think. All-in-all, a good spot for a cheap breakfast (considering some other spots are pushing R100 these days with their egg dishes). There's definitely some room for refinement, but I'd go back if I were in the area again.

I've been coming to Cape Town for 7 years now and the last 3 years we have always been back to Red Sofa. The staff are wonderful, food amazing and even the wi-fi is good for Cape Town. I've never seen the place empty which is always a good sign and it's really nice to see the staff having such a good connection with the customers. Guess I'll be back next week for my breakfast!
Love Love LOVEEEEEEE this place, service and food is amassing, always made to feel welcome. free Wifi is such a bonus and often use this place for my business meetings. Eggs Benedict is world class, and great coffee. Try the Plate-O-Bacon if you can. Great Service, Great Food and Always Welcoming a home from home. A+++
Went to Red Sofa Cafe for the first time on Saturday morning with a friend who is a regular patron. Nice place and decent food but our waitress had a bad attitude and the service was terrible. I ordered a glass of water and a cappuccino and my friend ordered a fruit juice. When our drinks arrived 10 minutes later, there was a mouldy slice of lemon in my water and my cappuccino was cold. My friend asked the waitress for a straw and when we had to wait another 10 minutes for the it, my friend got up to go and ask her for the straw, at which point the waitress asked 'Are you not able to drink without a straw?'. After telling her that we found her response rude and inappropriate and that we would never be back, she flippantly replied 'Ok' and walked away. There didn't appear to be anyone managing the place so we were unable to inform them, however, there are a number of nice restaurants in this area and I certainly will not bother to go back to Red Sofa Cafe after this experience.

With great food, a relaxed atmosphere and probably the best coffee served in Cape town, Red Sofa Cafe, should, in my opinion be every day-walker's local.
