It was my dad's birthday and I ordered a black forest cake 2 days in advance - I called the owner on a Monday and he advised that they are closed on a Monday and I should please call back on Tuesday, which i duly did. I called back on Tuesday, gave my name and requirements and said that I would collect late Monday afternoon after work. I arrived at the bakery and stated my name and order and I was told that a lady had been to collect the 2 black forest cakes that they had prepared for the day, one apparently for me and the second was extra, but the woman had taken BOTH cakes (the extra as well as my ordered cake!!!!!!!!). Now i has a bit perturbed (doesnt someone CONFIRM the details of the ordering customer before giving the cake away?)
What happened next was the most perculia thing: the manager (a British sounding guy) asked one of the bakery staff if she could make another cake. she answered that she indeed could and the manager guy asked me to wait 10 minutes. (how does one MAKE a fresh cream black forest cake in 10 mins????) I timed it and the lady went to the back and appeared exactly 6 minutes later with a cake that seemed fine. We had planned a dinner party so i just paid for for the cake and drove off (in a hurry). When i got home, i realised that the cake was not fresh at all and horror of horrors, the cake was an imitation cream cake!!!!!!!!!!! It then dawned on me that the cake was nothing more than a Supermarket "orley whip" cake. the bakery staff lady evidently went out and bought a supoermarket make and they charged me 3 times the amount for it!!!!!!!! The most annoying part of all of this, is that I drove from Bryanston to Mayfair for this piece of rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have told EVERYONE I know about my experience and I believe that Saleh Bakery should not be listed on Eat Out!
