Owner's description

The Piano Bar is a social hub in the De Waterkant Village based on the idea of a place where you can eat, drink, relax and socialize while listening to live jazz, soul and blues. The trendy space was built for locals to share with visitors to the area. There is a bar-room with a fireplace, a piano lounge for intimate dining or drinking while watching the musicians and there is the balcony for relaxing and taking in the views. The small changing menu is based on travel, the season and the land. New techniques are used to produce food that is exceptional, different and fresh but always delicious and simple. The bar serves an ever-changing selection of cocktails made with home-made infusions, directly imported spirits and flavours and inspiration from the chefs in the kitchen. Craft beers and known and interesting selection of wines from known and lesser known wineries are also on offer. The music highlights the rich culture in Cape Town, based on Classic Jazz bars in Paris, Blues and Soul from the US, New York or Chicago.

Great idea - but poorly executed! Food received was not as described on menu and when we asked about it we were told the new chef was experimenting? Also the worst tacos I've ever had. If I ever come back, it will be for drinks and the vibe only!
Arrived at The Piano Bar for a girls night on Saturday, was greeted by friendly staff, an inviting setting out on the veranda and a cosy interior. We arrived early, so we could chat without the music overpowering our conversation. Drinks were great and so was the service and ambiance. The menu looked good and so did the specials doodled on the chalk walls. We ordered tapas, it looked divine on arrival but didn't fit on our table, tables are small and round. Food was disappointing all round, lacked seasoning and depth of flavour.
Looking for a vegetarian burger then try The Piano Bar. The falafel burger was tasty and came with a good size portion of chips as well. The Piano Bar has live music, very loud so not a venue for a 'first date' or have a serious chat. A good venue to relax, listen to music, have a good meal and not talk too much with your partner however you can hear other peoples conversations...lol
For a quick meal or a three course one, The Piano Bar is a good choise. Perhaps have a drink in the Sky Bar first and than sit on the balcony or inside. Inside may be a bit loud as there is often very good life musik Choices are limited but always a few specials and what they serve is fresh. An excellent choice for a not too serious dinner.
