Two South African restaurants make TripAdvisor’s 25 best list

American travel review aggregator TripAdvisor has released its list of the top fine dining restaurants in the world – and South African restaurants feature twice.

Constantia restaurant La Colombe came in at number 20, while The Test Kitchen in Woodstock came in at 22.

The list was generated from an algorithm which looked at the quantity and quality of the reviews for a given restaurant over the last 12 months.

The top three fine dining restaurants in the world, according to the list, are Martin Berasategui in Spain, Maison Lameloise in France and L’Auberge de I’Ill in France.

Notably absent from the list are the Osteria Francescana in Italy (number one on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list) and Eleven Madison Park in New York (number three in the world according to the World’s 50 best). The critic judged competition’s number two, El Cellar de Can Roca in Spain, makes it in at number 13.

Needless to say, we’re thrilled to see South Africa so well represented (and only very slightly galled to see an Australian restaurant at number 15 and a New Zealand one at 19).
