From dinner to duvet: Eat Out star dining meets overnight stays

The finest dining experiences become effortless when they end with a short walk to your suite rather than a long drive home. Whether it’s a wine-filled dinner or a tasting menu that lingers well into the evening, the option to simply retreat upstairs transforms dining into a full experience.

We’ve rounded up a selection of standout restaurants located within hotels and guest houses across South Africa.

Amura (City Bowl, Cape Town)
Awarded both the Eat Out VISI Style Award and Eat Out Woolworths Best New Restaurant, Amura by Ángel León transforms the historic Planet Room into a ocean-inspired restaurant where sustainable seafood takes centre stage.

Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel provides the perfect backdrop for the restaurant. This luxury hotel and spa offers elegantly appointed rooms and suites, from historic Garden Cottages situated amongst the rose gardens to suites with stunning Table Mountain views.

Chefs Warehouse at Tintswalo Atlantic (Hout Bay, Cape Town)
The journey to Chefs Warehouse at Tintswalo Atlantic begins with a dramatic chauffeured descent down Chapman’s Peak Drive, to the glass-fronted restaurant set close to the crashing waves below. Head chef Cameron Smith and his team craft contemporary tapas that celebrate the Cape’s natural resources, from sustainably caught local fish to heirloom vegetables from trusted suppliers.

Tintswalo Atlantic’s luxury island suites are uniquely themed after islands and mountains, providing the perfect retreat after your meal. Each suite offers a balcony with views of the bay and comes equipped with air conditioning, a seating area and fireplace. Tintswalo Atlantic also serves breakfast daily in the dining room or deck.

CURATE at Ellerman House (Bantry Bay, Cape Town)
CURATE at Ellerman House showcases South African flavours through refined tasting menus served in a wine gallery setting. The restaurant pairs seasonal dishes with carefully selected wines from its 10 000-bottle collection.

Ellerman House is a private boutique hotel on Cape Town’s celebrated Atlantic Seaboard. Each of the individually styled rooms exudes comfort and sophistication, featuring exquisite decor, eye-catching South African art and all the little touches that make for a seamless stay.

Cyra (Houghton Estate, Johannesburg)
Since opening in October 2024, Cyra has quickly established itself as Johannesburg’s premier fine dining destination, earning accolades as Eat Out Best New Restaurant in 2025. Chef Candice Philip’s intimate restaurant overlooks the Houghton Golf Course, serving multi-course tasting menus that emphasise seasonality and precision.

The Houghton Hotel’s accommodation ranges from King Suites to Rockstar Penthouse with private gym and wrap-around balcony. The hotel’s luxury extends beyond the rooms to include the Houghton Spa, Fitbar fitness centre, and access to the prestigious Houghton Golf Club.

Leeto (Paternoster)
Leeto at Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel celebrates refined contemporary cuisine. The restaurant focuses on seasonal, and organic ingredients – particularly the exceptional seafood that defines this historic fishing village with ocean views.

Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel’s exquisite rooms blend beach style with contemporary luxury. Choose from Ocean King Suites with uninterrupted Atlantic views, Nature King Suites featuring loft workspaces and private terraces, or Courtyard Lux Rooms with fireplaces and outdoor bars. Each accommodation includes private courtyards or terraces, fireplaces, and modern amenities.

Qunu at the Saxon (Sandhurst, Johannesburg)
Named after Nelson Mandela’s childhood village, Qunu honours African heritage while embracing contemporary international influences. Chef Scott Dressel’s dedication to local sourcing shines through in the sharing plates and tasting menus, all complemented by the sommelier’s expert wine pairings. The restaurant’s pastry chef, Catherine Adonis is a magician so it’s no surprise she walked away with the Eat Out Callebaut Dessert Award at the 2026 Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards.

Saxon Hotel offers luxury suites and private villas that include ultimate privacy with lounges, dining areas, plunge pools, and butler service. Standard Luxury Suites span 80 square metres with African-inspired décor, while the private villas provide boutique-style exclusivity with full hotel services. The pool, spa, and multiple dining venues create a complete luxury sanctuary in Johannesburg.

Terrarium (V&A Waterfront, Cape Town)
Chef Chris Erasmus and head chef Anlou Erasmus have created a zero-waste, hyperlocal dining experience that celebrates sustainable cuisine. The team’s efforts were rewarded with the restaurant winning the Eat Out Emerging Green Star Award. The Flora and Fauna tasting menus showcase indigenous ingredients through innovative techniques, while the newly launched à la carte menu draws inspiration from childhood memories and local foraging traditions.

Queen Victoria Hotel offers a peaceful retreat within the vibrant V&A Waterfront. The Premium Rooms with Table Mountain and harbour views, and the spectacular Presidential Suite with wraparound balcony, provide sophisticated comfort steps away from the Two Oceans Aquarium and Waterfront attractions. Room service from Terrarium, and access to the Sanctuary Spa create an urban sanctuary where sustainable fine dining meets luxury accommodation.

The LivingRoom at Summerhill Guest Estate (Pinetown, eThekwini)
Set within a lush, elevated estate in Pinetown, The LivingRoom offers a dining experience rooted in sustainability and seasonality. Chef Johannes Richter’s approach is ingredient-led, with much of the produce sourced directly from the estate’s gardens. Expect a thoughtful tasting menu that evolves with the seasons, served in an intimate setting.

Summerhill Guest Estate’s spacious en-suite rooms are each air-conditioned featuring king or queen extra-long beds, private patios, and views of the tranquil surroundings. The estate includes a gourmet breakfast that’s become legendary among guests.

The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg (Melrose, Johannesburg)
The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg brings Luke Dale Roberts’ signature small plates dining to The Peech Hotel. The menu serves both classic dishes from the original Pot Luck Club restaurant alongside new creations developed specifically for the Joburg location. The restaurant’s offerings are complemented by a formidable wine list and signature cocktails.

The Peech Hotel is a boutique property set within lush gardens. The hotel offers luxury rooms and suites across four categories, all with garden views, air conditioning, high-speed WiFi, and Nespresso machines. Guests have access to facilities like the fitness gym, outdoor swimming pools, and the gardens for peaceful walking areas with local birdlife and rotating art exhibitions.

The Red Room by Chefs Warehouse (City Bowl, Cape Town)
The Red Room represents Liam Tomlin and David Schneider’s culinary adventure. Chef Caroline Lamb leads the kitchen in creating Pan-Asian cuisine transforming an underground space into an elegant homage to Hong Kong’s diverse food culture.

There is accommodation awaiting upstairs in the legendary Mount Nelson Hotel. What more could you want?
