The sweetest special award at the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards is undoubtedly the Eat Out Callebaut Dessert Award. This year, it went to Catherine Adonis, head pastry chef at Qunu Restaurant at The Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg, which also received an Eat Out star.
Known for precision, creativity, and exceptional craftsmanship, Catherine’s desserts showcase the artistry and imagination that transform a final course into something unforgettable.
“My aim at Qunu Restaurant is to make desserts that are memorable, make desserts that are familiar in some way, and I love it when people say, wow, how did you do that?” Catherine says.
“Honestly, I think I was meant to do this. Even when I look back on things about my childhood and how I ended up here… I was meant to be a pastry chef.”
