Boschendal Style Award nominee: Kream

Stylish and sophisticated, Pretoria restaurant Kream offers fine food in a slick contemporary environment. The restaurant is nominated for the Boschendal Style Award for a second time this year; after making the top five last year.

The restaurant:
This clean, airy space exemplifies urban luxury. Separate areas mean that diners can have different experiences depending on where they choose to sit. High ceilings and a curving white staircase add drama, while Bormioli glassware and Domas furniture ensure that even the details reflect an air of quality.

The food:
Popular dishes include the seared scallops (pan-seared in garlic butter, served with prawn and saffron sauce and cumin toast) and the fillet bone marrow (a grilled Chalmar beef fillet, served with oven-roasted bone marrow, port jus and skinny fries). For dessert, try the Blondies & Brownies – white and dark chocolate brownies served with vanilla ice cream. (We hear they’re amazing!)

The x-factor:
Since last year’s nomination, the restaurant has added some local art to the mix, including a wire tree made by street artist Archie & Talent. Currently, they are adding a new wine tasting room in the entrance of the restaurant, where guests will have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of wines before ordering.

They have also recently opened a separate concept restaurant within Kream called Twenty1 "The Chefs Studio". This exclusive space features a full Gaggenau kitchen and seats only 20 diners. Here the head chef prepares separate tasting menus ranging from 4 to 7 courses with the option of wine pairings. The new space also plays host to wine and whiskey evenings.

Does Kream have what it takes to win the Boschendal Style Award at the Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards?
