Boschendal Style Award nominee:The Saxon

The second of our nominees for the Boschendal Style Award, The Saxon is a boutique hotel, villa and spa in Sandhurst, Johannesburg, that boasts having hosted Nelson Mandela while he was editing his autobiography, The Long Walk to Freedom.

The mood: The neutral palette of the restaurant’s décor is sophisticated and warm with an African feel. The emphasis is on being understated but luxurious and discerning.

The designer: Award winning Stephen Falcke of Stephen Falcke interior design has worked in London, France, America and South Africa where he is now based.

The details: The rich mahogany tables and chairs were also designed by Stephen. They’re complimented with cutlery made by Sambonet from Italy and pure bone China made in Germany by Dibben.

The food: The menu makes the most of seasonal and organic produce. It is prepared by Executive Chef, Australian national, Nancy Kinchela. A sommelier presides to help you choose wine that has been sourced from well-renowned local and international wine estates.
