De Vreugd (Mayville)
Catch up over “Koek en tee” for only R35 per person. This special seems made for this time of the year. Or enjoy one of their weekday meals of the day at R60 per person (place your order by 11am daily). These prices are hard to beat and ever so welcome after the holidays.
Honchos (City Centre)
This upstart brand that is bringing excellent value fast food to the mass market has three city locations. The Honchos brand has been growing and expanding rapidly over the past few years. The menu at Honchos offers great value all year round and is especially welcome in the lean months. Enjoy a schwarma at under R30 or a chicken cheese burger and 300ml Pepsi drink for only R25. The “take-two” combos are also excellent value – get two beef or two chicken burgers for under R50 (for both!). You can always choose from half a grilled chicken (R50) or a full chicken (R99), or feed a crowd with the Honchos feast, which includes one full chicken, four full wings, a large chips, four buns, coleslaw and 2L Coo-ee drink at R199. This chain knows how to fill your tummy with deliciousnes on a budget. Chicken flavours range from mild and herby to somewhere up the Schoville scale.
The Place Café and Grill (Newlands)
The Place has a weekday special for almost every day of the week. Here are a few recommendations to whet your appetite. On Wednesdays, you pay only R100 for a starter and main from the set menu. The starters include a choice between crumbed mushrooms and dipping sauce, peri-peri livers or a Greek salad. Your choice of mains are mild chicken curry and rice, basil pesto and broccoli pasta, hake and chips, rump and chips or a lovely chicken schnitzel for lunch. Add a dessert for only R30. On Thursdays, you and your bestie can each enjoy a 30cm pizza of your choice and pay only R160 for both. The only pizzas excluded from this special are their Miss Piggy or the Pescatore. Enjoy them as a sit-down meal or as a takeaway option.

Rafters offers a Tuesday lunch special that can feed four people for under R300. Get two plates of English-style fish and chips (grilled or fried) and two beefburgers and chips for the remarkable price of only R250.
