Chef PJ Vadas to leave Camphors to start his own restaurant and brewery, The Hog House

PJ Vadas, head chef at Camphors at Vergelegen (a 2013 Top 10 restaurant), will be leaving the estate at the end of July to open his own restaurant, The Hog House.

PJ formerly headed up the kitchen at The Roundhouse (a big winner at the 2011 Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards) alongside Eric Bulpitt, who is now at the helm of the Restaurant at Newton Johnson in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

PJ told Eat Out, “We’re still looking for a venue, but The Hog House will be very casual with lots of pork dishes – and we want to brew our own beer. Camphors will always be a cool place for me. I have loved my time here; the people are awesome. But I want to try different things in a more relaxed environment.”

PJ will leave Camphors at the end of July before embarking on a research trip. “I’ll probably head to London for a bit, see what’s happening there, and then come back and go full-steam ahead,” he said.
