America is obsessed with pumpkin spice. This year, Pop Sugar tasted their way through 119 pumpkin spice flavoured products, including pumpkin spice-flavoured biscotti, beer, yoghurt, cereal and Philadelphia cream cheese. The internet abounds with pumpkin spice latte-inspired recipes, including this somewhat misguided one, for risotto.

If like us, you harbour a secret desire to try this bewildering American craze in its original form – the latte – we have a local answer for you: Old Town Italy in Durbs is currently serving a pumpkin-spiced latte as a weekly special.  It’s made with a shot of espresso, real pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, and topped with whipped cream – and could be yours for R25.
