Hermanus restaurants narrowly miss flooding as heavy rains hit

Dramatic videos and photos surfaced yesterday after heavy rains hit Hermanus yesterday.

Café 1904’s Endria Post said the heavy rains hit between 7pm and 8pm last night. And while they were luckily spared flooding, waters were a little higher three shops down from them.

At Debonairs, staff said they were not flooded, but that water was reaching them when cars drove past. A manager confirmed it was business as usual again today.

Betty Blue Bistro said they were actually doing a happy rain dance. “Even if Betty floods a bit every drop is welcome” said an Instagram post. In a later comment, they said they were luckily not too badly affected, although the neighbouring optometrist came out worse. “Ons gras het net a bietjie water gekry,” said the comment. (“Our grass just got a bit of water.”)
