Popcorn doughnuts, macarons and waffles are a thing – and you can get them in Joburg right now

Johannesburg-based Emilio’s Gourmet Popcorn is revolutionising the game by introducing puffed treats into our favourite desserts, including doughnuts, macarons and waffles. (It looks like Somerset West’s popcorn producer Guzzle & Wolf has got some competition!)

Exclusive to the Emilio’s store in Montecasino, Johannesburg, the Popcornology range offers fans the likes of the popular Popnut, a ring doughnut shape moulded out of cinnamon-caramel popcorn, dipped in Beyer’s Belgian chocolate, sprinkled with toppings and served with a scoop of ice cream, as well as freshly made Belgian waffles topped with ice cream, cream, Emilio’s caramel popcorn and a drizzle of chocolate or maple syrup.

If their sweet tooth is still not satisfied, they can take home a few Popparoons (almond macarons with honey popcorn and chocolate ganache) to enjoy as a guilty pleasure.

Emilio’s Gourmet Popcorn is available in a rage of 30 flavours, including the original Belgian chocolate duo, cinnamon-bun pecan, chilli chocolate, Cape koeksister, spiced honey, herbed cheddar, mature cheddar and even blue cheese and black pepper.

The popcorn pouches are priced R19 to R39 and can be found at Emilio’s as well as at various expos and events, and at selected retail stores including Spar, Thrupps, PartySpot and a few independent delis. The Popcornology creations range between R15 and R38 and are available at Emilio’s in Montecasino and Weltevreden Park.
