Food

The health café serves breakfast all day, so you know you won’t miss out if you decide to sleep in or spend the morning surfing. Start your day here on your own time with coffee or a mimosa.

The sourdough bagels come highly recommended. Choose between salmon and garlic-whipped cream cheese with dill and a lemon drizzle, or a caprese of mozzarella and cherry tomatoes with basil pesto and fresh basil leaves. The smoothies are delicious and feel-good, and smoothie bowls resemble sorbet or ice-cream with toppings like blueberries and cacao nibs. Most smoothies have a base of frozen banana, 100% coconut water, nut mylk and dates, before becoming fruity, nutty or chocolatey. Lots of locals arrive just for the soft serve and flake.

They have a selection of wholesome, nutritious harvest salads on offer for lunch, but that’s also when you might feel like eating from the collective fishery. It’s all from the same place, so you can order from both the café and fishery and not have to pay separately.

The Coastal Collective has a focus on sustainably sourced, local ingredients, so they don’t always have line fish available if the fishermen were unlucky that morning. Portions are very generous. The fish and local calamari combo is well worth it. The hake has perfectly crispy batter and flakey white fish with each bite, served with homemade chips and tartar sauce.

Drinks

A good selection of coffees, including chai latte, iced coffee, and hot chocolate for those colder coastal days. They also have a selection of juices – freshly squeezed daily.

The drinks are perfectly-suited to the feel-good vibes, with craft beers and gin, a small selection of house wines (and Raats and Newton Johnson), bubbly, a mimosa cocktail – and even a few interesting tequila brands!

Service

The staff are relaxed and friendly – order at the counter and they will bring your order to the table.

Ambience

It’s all coastal vibes at this health café, deli, boutique and fishery that make up The Coastal Collective. They’re big on community and sustainability, supporting local farmers, fishermen and artists as far as possible. Neighbourhood locals, surfers, and out-of-towners alike soak up the sun and the coastal lifestyle on the wooden decks outside.

It’s an open and airy, relaxing atmosphere. The décor is free-spirited coastal chic. Choose to sit outside on the decks or at the benches on the lawn. It’s family and dog friendly.
