The Spier Secret Festival is coming to Johannesburg

Heads up, Jozi: One of SA’s most popular wine-and-food events will be making its way to Egoli soil this November. The Spier Secret Festival, which has been held at Spier wine farm in Stellenbosch for the past four years, will be moving to Johannesburg for its 2016 edition for a day of eating, drinking and learning.

The food-and-wine event is focused on exploring the latest trends and revealing all kinds of trade secrets, from hot ingredients and recipes to SA’s best-kept wine secret, chenin blanc. The festival also includes a one-day conference of talks and presentations that focus on ethical production and sustainable practices, flavour installations and plenty of eating and drinking.

The Spier pop-up dinner series will also be making an appearance in Gauteng. In 2014, the Spier Secret team popped up a temporary wine bar in Braamfontein, where a series of secret dinners were held. “We really enjoyed the warm welcome given to our pop-up Spier Secret Courtyard bar on Juta Street and couldn’t wait to get back to the Joburg energy,” says Spier cellar master Frans Smit.

While the finer details are still in the works, Joburg foodies can expect to see a great line-up of in-the-know foodie speakers, including South African dietician Mpho Tshukudu; Dutch food designer De Melksalon; conceptual caterers Cateringa & Kompanen; and the UK-based author of Pickled and founder of F.A.T pop-up café, Freddie Janssen.

The Spier Secret Festival will take place on Sunday 6 November 2016. Tickets are on sale for R1 900 per person via Webtickets.
