Where to watch the big game in Durban

Want to pair the soccer game, tennis match, or nail-biting rugga with some good food? These Durban hotspots have got you covered.

Hudsons The Burger Joint (Umhlanga Rocks)

Chow down on your favourite gourmet burger while watching the game. Plus, throughout the FIFA World Cup, Hudsons will also be running a R20 Budweiser special. Pair that with burgers topped with biltong chilli cream cheese, bacon jam, deboned rib, or beer-battered jalapeños.

The Lighthouse Bar (Umhlanga)

This swanky bar with beautiful Indian Ocean views has flat-screen televisions to cover all your sporting needs. Cheer on your team while sipping on colourful cocktails or draught beers. Also snack on charcuterie and oysters.

Republik (Hillcrest)

This neighbourhood burger, wine and craft beer bar serves a wide range of sumptuous burgers as well as a build-your-own selection. Sports fans can sink their teeth into lamb-and-feta or chicken burgers while rooting for their team on the wide-screen TV. There’s also some good bar-friendly starters like barbecue Sriracha chicken wings, fried halloumi bites, and a pint of garlic prawns.

S43 (Morningside)

This brewery and bar is the perfect location for sport-watching. Book your spot on one of the relaxed long-slung tables or grab a spot at the bar and catch the game on the big screen. There’ll also be live music to keep the festivities going into the night. As for the food, expect street food-style bites like punjabi samoosas, tacos and wings, or go for gourmet burgers and savoury waffles for something more filling.

Unity Bar (Morningside)

Meat-lovers flock to this Durban favourite. Diners can tuck into juicy burgers and tender chargrilled steaks while watching sports on the flat-screen TV. Grab a big table with friends, or perch at the sleek wooden bar and snack on some tasty plank offerings, such as the sliders or veg mezze.

Waxy O’Connors (Sunningdale and Westville)

Find your spot at the bar or grab a table at this Irish-style pub. Sports games are always shown on the large HD screen and hungry fans can get into the spirit of things with gourmet fare like Dublin Bay fish and chips, bangers and mash with brown onion gravy, Natal Indian curry, and seven different home-style pies. You can also build your own snack basket to match your craving and share with a crowd.
