Heads up, Durbanites: KZN’s beloved 9th Avenue Bistro has launched a range of gourmet doughnuts in collaboration with Wicked Donuts. The treats will be available on weekends only for the next few months.
Gina Neilson of 9th Avenue Bistro and Jeanne Brooks of Wicked Donuts are old friends and have now decided to combine their mutual love of food in the form of fine-dining doughnuts. Explains Gina, “Jeanne and I have been great friends since school and have always shared a love of all things delicious. Once we bought an entire chocolate cake for just the two of us!”
This partnership has launched with the help of 9th Avenue’s head chef, Charlie Lakin, who has created an elegant spiced-pumpkin doughnut with candied pecan nuts and browned-butter icing. This first of the series was on sale last weekend at Wicked Donuts in Durban North.
As for the rest of the flavours, Charlie and the 9th Avenue team have some pretty decadent-sounding creations up their sleeves. Expect the likes of burnt miso and butterscotch with lemon curd and white chocolate; plum and elderflower with elderflower glaze, candied plums and bitter chocolate; and roasted white chocolate and thyme.
