5 Acres

5 ACRES cocktail

A slightly sweet combination bringing out the rich nutty tones of Tullamore D.E.W is the 5 Acres cocktail.

Ingredients

30ml Tullamore D.E.W
30ml Dry Vermouth
30ml Ruby Port
2 dash aromatic bitters
2 dash chocolate bitters
Garnish orange twist and cherry

Method

Up until the mid-1950’s, Irish whiskey was distilled in Tullamore – a market town in the Irish Midlands. Known the world over for its smooth and gentle complexity, Tullamore D.E.W., the original triple distilled, triple blend Irish whiskey invites you to mix up one if its landmark drinks: the 5 Acres cocktail.

The Tullamore distillery, produces pure pot still whiskey using a triple distillation process. During Daniel E Williams’ times, the 11 warehouses alone covered nearly 5 acres and contained gallons of whiskey.

Speaking of gallons, Tullamore D.E.W. uses three cask varieties in maturation: traditional, ex-bourbon and sherry casks. This unique ageing process yields rich colour and distinctive flavour, further enhancing its complexity and character.

A slightly sweet combination bringing out the rich nutty tones of Tullamore D.E.W is the 5 Acres cocktail, a very simple blend containing dry vermouth, ruby port, chocolate bitters and aromatic bitters.

METHOD
Add all ingredients into a chilled stirring glass, add ice and stir until liquid and ice meet. Pour content into a cocktail glass, zest with orange and garnish with a cherry and orange twist.

Tullamore D.E.W. suggests, if you're feeling fancy and daring, try it in a martini glass and garnish with an orange twist and cherry – it won't change the taste but it sure will look good.
