There is no better time for a family picnic than the festive season. Unfortunately, our picnic at Allee Bleue didn't go as plan. Doing extensive research to find dog friendly wine farms that also serve picnics; we came across Allee Bleue (sited on multiple websites, but in their defense, not on theirs). We booked well in advance, and was also asked well in advance to foot the entire picnic (not merely a deposit). We did so accordingly. On the day, the weather was rather ominous - I phoned them to hear if they have alternative seating for raining days. They told us that they will move us inside - and here it went catastrophically wrong. I asked them if our little puppy will be allowed inside. A very confused hostess told me that dogs are absolutely not allowed on their premises, nowhere. I replied with more confusion that multiple websites cited them as a dog friendly wine farm. The manager contacted me and said in a stern voice, absolutely not. This information together with the weather dampened our mood quite a bit; we therefore informed them that we will merely come and collect our picnic baskets (as we already paid the full amount upfront, and it was not small change) but will not have it on the farm. I also clearly stipulated the time it should be ready. Ambiance As we drove into the wine farm, we were utterly underwhelmed and when we saw the picnic area we were actually happy that we are not staying. Service Unfortunately our baskets were not ready when we arrived and the waitress seemed very lacks about it speaking to us whilst she was having her lunch (?). We went inside the main building where the hostess seemed rather confused about us collecting our baskets (again confused). Food What Allee Bleue lacks in ambiance and service, they made up with their picnic basket food. It was really delicious and there was quite a variety in the baskets. But, unfortunately, the food couldn't take the bad taste out of mouths.
It is often the case when a restaurant is not full that service is poor as it seems the waiters have better things to do than serve the poor saps who have arrived. Allee Bleue did not disappoint and the breakfast we had followed suit. They have no idea how to do a Hollandiase for their eggs benedict and the bacon was barely cooked. For the healt breakfast I can say the fruit looked nice but we would still have been better off at home will Woolies muesli, yohurt and fruit on our own stoep. The capacinos we had we mediocre. Located at the front entrance means that you have all the vehicle traffic noise R45.

This is great little spot in the winelands. Always delivers good fare, good service and the wine prices are extremely well priced for on consumption.
