This branch of Cattle Barons has a different look to others I've been to in Cape Town. It has a modern, current look and feel, which I prefer to the old dated steak ranch vibe that some have (e.g. Canal Walk branch). The service is average, I've had different experiences, some better than others, but never bad service. I always order a fillet, with no sauce, as I need to taste the meat! I'm never disappointed. Medium rare ... is always received as medium rare. The quality of the steak is exactly as one would expect. The choice of starch is great, offering a wide variety, and their signature spinach and butternut is always a winner. The portions have however shrunk considerably ... giving a tiny dish of veg for two people to share ... rather disappointing. The prices are not over the top. Easily affordable for the average income.
The experience was an absolute disgrace. The reception from the manager at the door was appalling, although we were a bit late from our booked time, she was very abrupt and very unwelcoming after we entered and announced who we were. We waited 45 min for them to fill the bay marines with food. After which the roast beef was raw. When we brought this to their attention the chef came to the buffet table with the manager talking amongst themselves. Not coming to our table. I heard the chef say that it is supposed to be rare, since it was rare roast, but there was no identifiers at the food table. I believe that this was very unprofessional of them to have this discussion at the buffet table. To top it off, the chicken wings they served after 1 hour was RAW, and this could have made us extremely sick or even worse. We had to pay a bill of R1095, without having a proper course. The manager was rude and had a very bad attitude which left a bad taste in the mouth. It was my sister's birthday and she was in tears as this was an awful experience and she chose this restaurant based on the excellent service we had at Cattle Baron Durbanville branch on my birthday last month.
Cattle Baron Plattekloof is racist. I booked a table for my sister in I well in advance. Upon arrival to a very empty restuarant we were forced to sit at a very awkward table just outside the passage to the kitchen even after asking to be seated elsewhere. The table we were seated at was directly under the aircon that kept dripping water on our heads. After asking, we were moved to the only other awkward table situated close to the entrance of the restuarant. Despite being told they were fully booked, throughout our entire meal the restaurant was barely at 60% capacity and a number of more suitable tables were open and only offered to white patrons. I am deeply disappointed by their treatment
